Bruce Nagel

Bruce Dean Nagel was born in San Antonio, Texas.  He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and after a period of apprenticeship in Boston, studied for and received his Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. 

2023 marks 39 years of architectural service in the Hamptons. The office of Bruce D. Nagel, Architect was opened in 1984 in East Hampton, New York, relocated to Southampton, New York in 2004, and in 2011 located to his STUDIO in East Quogue, New York and in 2016 opened his acclaimed ARCHITECT'S GALLERY at 69 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, New York.

In 2018 the office has been changed from Bruce D. Nagel Architect to Bruce Nagel + Partners Architects.

Mr. Nagel has worked on many celebrated projects, such as the Faneuil Hall Marketplace project at Benjamin Thompson and Associates in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as project architect for several residential and institutional projects with Richard Meier & Partners and as senior associate at Gwathmey Siegel and Associates where he worked on numerous public and private award-winning projects, and John Pawson as the Executive Architect on the Montauk House (Beachview House).

Mr. Nagel taught architecture at the Boston Architectural Center.  Since that time, he has served as guest critic and juror at the architecture schools of several leading universities, including Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Having won awards for several individual projects over the years, Mr. Nagel was honored in 1993 by the Long Island Chapter of the A.I.A. with its newly initiated ARCHI Award - Young Firm Award, as well as an ARCHI Award for Residential Architecture.  Again in 1994 Mr. Nagel was honored by the Long Island Chapter of the A.I.A. with the ARCHI Award for Institutional Architecture.  Dan’s Papers selected Mr. Nagel twelve times as the BEST ARCHITECT in Dan’s List of "The Best of the Best" in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013.  Mr. Nagel was also selected as the BEST ARCHITECT in Hamptons Magazine’s List of "The Best of the Hamptons" in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009.

In 2014 Mr. Nagel was selected to receive the prestigious and life time award of Dan's Papers "HALL OF FAME" as the Best Architect in the Hamptons.  This award is given to a person who has been selected over and over again for this award yearly.

In 2019 Mr. Nagel was selected to receive the Best Architect of the Year from IAOTP and then in 2022 received the Top Architect of the Decade also from IAOTP (International Association of Top Professionals)  This award is given to a person who has been selected over and over again for this award yearly.

Bruce is happily married to Darlene Nagel and lives in East Quogue, New York.  Bruce's daughter, Taylor, lives in Rockford, Michigan and is a PA-C at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
